Dr. Courtney Samuel
Dr Courtney Samuel is a Townsville-born and raised Paediatric Rheumatologist who specialises in caring for children and young people with a range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
She completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at James Cook University in 2010, followed by a Diploma in Child Health through the University of Sydney and Westmead Children’s Hospital. She holds dual Fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Paediatric Rheumatology and General Paediatrics.
Dr Courtney has trained and worked across Australia, including at the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane, the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and Perth Children’s Hospital in Western Australia, as well as training overseas at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada.
Dr Courtney holds a staff specialist position at Townsville University Hospital and enjoys teaching roles within the James Cook University School of Medicine, as well as supervising and mentoring junior doctors in training.
Dr Courtney’s clinical interests include juvenile forms of arthritis, myositis and lupus, as well as biomechanical and growth-related musculoskeletal concerns throughout childhood and adolescence.
She prides herself on taking the time to get to know the young people in her care and having a patient and family-centred approach to improving wellbeing and function.
